Hip Roof Plans, Lay out view of the hips and common rafters
Hip Roof Plans, placing the ridge and common rafters should be the first thing to be laid out on your wall top plates. From this layout you can mark out all the rest of the common and jack rafter positions.
With the common rafters marked out you can then also lay out for ceiling joist since they must be installed first. From the first common rafter on the rear start laying out all jack rafters to the right then using the same first common rafter laying out the center section common rafters so as to maintain your 16" on center for easier sheathing installation.
With the rear wall properly laid out begin laying out the front of the house. The first common rafter will align with the rear first common rafter but all the other rafters will offset to the right by 1 1/2" to allow the ceiling joist to lap in the center of the house and tie together. Typically you would want them to lap over the bearing wall about 4" to allow adequate nailing.
