Plan View Detail Illistrated with all common rafters, jack rafters and hip rafters in place and colorized.
Because we elected to keep everything on 16" centers we will have to special cut three sections of the jack rafters.
Once all the ceiling joist and all other rafters are installed it is easy to figure these special cut jack rafters. You can measure the distance between the first common rafter and the location at the wall top plate where the first jack rafter will set and using your framing square at the top of the first common rafter as shown below you can mark it and then just measure that length which will give you the long point of your first jack rafter and then doing the math on the balance.
With 4x12 pitch the difference in length will be 1' 4 7/8" deducted from each one until you reach the corner.
